Yuiko's Surprise

It's a pin-up of my original character, Nokoa Yuiko, from my mannga-in-the-making, Nekomimi☼ No ☼ Kagami™.
It's better if you read the description for this drawing than me telling you everything here, 'kay?
'Kay!

The Price of Progress

Wed Jun 24, 2009, 9:37 AM
¡Journal of a Mad Man!

Time it slowed,
and reality bent,
but on and on The Freelancer went!

News:
:new: Just What is the Price of Progress? :new:
Today's journal happen to be a departure from the norm.
Today, I like would to get a few things off my chest that I feel need be said.
And those things are, what is the price of progress?
I ask because of something I saw yesterday that horrified me somewhat.
Before I began this rant, I must preface with this: I consider myself very jaded.
At this point in time, most of what humanity does to itself doesn't surprise me.
Mostly, it makes me disappointed that after some one-hundred centuries, we still can't seem to get our act together.
Now, that being said, there are still a few things I find disturbing.
Point in fact: the ten-year-old girl I saw at the transit center yesterday.
Now, I would like to think that I don't have a «Lolita Complex», but this young girl was making me question that by several degrees.
She stood maybe at 5'2" (1.57m) tall, and still had a very girlish/childish face, but that was all about her that looked at all childish.
I honestly don't want to go into details here, but no ten year old should look like that.
Worse were her clothes, which would look comely or even sexy on a young woman twice her age…
…apple bottom jeans DO NOT belong on little girls, period!
So, praytell, what is the price of progress?
Sure, instead of hunting for our daily meals, we can simply go to McDonald's or visit your local grocery store to pick up what you need…
…but most of those foodstuffs aren't developed by family farms anymore.
Many are grown from corporate farms…
…that use growth hormones and pituitary stimulants to bolster and accelerate the growth of livestock…
…so the cows, the pigs, and the chickens are fatter faster and are slaughtered more quickly…
…so they make it to your grocers refrigerated coolers mopre quickly and efficiently for your consumption…
…and the corporations profit.
And who knows if those growth hormones can be passed off to humans?
Maybe that would explain the explosion in pedophiles around the world: growth hormones in cattle and other consumable livestock get passed on to human beings, namely children, who physically mature faster than Nature intended.
So know we have ten year olds with the bodies of adolescents or young adults.
:puke:
Is this progress?
Rearing our children to a quicker physical (and in some cases psychological) maturity, so they can become prey to very real and very horrible human monsters?
Is this really progress?
Yeah, sure, Nature has we Homo Sapeins constructed so we reach physical maturity before we reach our psychological maturity…
…but we aren't in the Medieval Era anymore, where many adults only lived to be between twenty one and thirty years old.
Hell, when was the last time you ever saw a thirty year in a grave with murder being part of the equation?
So, is this really, truly progress?
Damned if I know.
But if it is, when does it stop?
When all the men are dead and the women get their share of the treasure?
Do we simply regurgitate the same bullshit we've been doing for generations on end until our stock is so thin that we can no longer be called a viable species?
Damned if I know…
…but God save us all if it is.

Announcements:

That is all.
Also, I posted a new chapter to Clarissa Gets Even, and a prose piece themed for After People.
Be a pal, a buddy, a friend and an all around good person and read these, please?
And comment if you can; I love comments.

Notes to Self and Other Random, Senseless Shit:
:note: Need to write/ Draw More. :note:
This goes without saying, but I even when I have the time to do so, I find myself distracted by other things.
Namely, Metriod Fusion, which has been kicking my ass lately.
When did Metriod games get this hard, yo?
If isn't SA-X kicking my ass, it's some of the ingeniously fiendish bosses handing me my derriere.
I'm pretty certain my skills are more than a bit rusty, but I think it would also help if my home desktop ran a little faster and had a better memory card.
:frustrated:

Thanks for the fave on Grim Circumstance! :D
You're very welcome.
It's rare, nay, it never happens that a crime noir video has a pyschological thriller twist addd on to it.
At least, all the crime noir/caper movies I've ever seen have…
…with the possible exception of "The Usual Suspects."
Excellent work.
I kinda wonder if that guy is having a very bad karmic cycle.

I think he is! Poor guy, he wants so badly to believe he's the hero. ;-)

Thanks again! I had so much fun making it.
Don't we all.
I know that I have a story, or maybe saga is a better word, about a man who seeks to do right, but in the process of doing so, relveals the monster is he is more than adept at becoming.
His entire life is spent fighting for peace and making amends to the lives he ended through his own immense power.
